The golden rules to follow after receiving a gastric band implant

Your body is currently or will be changing. You have to give yourself time and attention; more than before. For this, we suggest that your follow a few golden rules that have made it possible for others before you to succeed in losing weight. In addition, you can get a head start by following these rules long before you have your gastric band implant.

  • Start doing physical activity again to burn calories and stabilize your weight. The more weight you lose, the easier physical exercise becomes.
  • Surround yourself with a “support group” (friends or family who want to see you slim down and feel good about yourself as much as you do) to give you the necessary encouragement during periods of doubt.
  • Eat a varied diet: you aren’t going to eat much, so gravitate towards healthy, high-quality products.
  • Schedule a consultation with your nutritionist in the 15 days that follow the procedure, because nutritional follow-up is absolutely necessary.
  • Go to the market and cook for yourself: you will know the exact nutritional value of your diet.
  • Only eat when you are hungry and stop eating as soon as you start to feel full.
  • Chew each mouthful, take your time when eating and wait a little between each mouthful: there is a risk that food could be blocked at the band.
  • However, the band does not have much effect on liquid foods: they pass through your new stomach too quickly, without allowing you to feel full.
  • Do not eat between meals. If you are hungry, have a plain yogurt or piece of fruit rather than a chocolate bar or a soda full of calories. Avoid sugar and fat.
  • Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water per day, between meals, to cleanse your body. You can also drink as much tea and coffee without cream or sugar as you want.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks, which can expand your new stomach.
